Marmaris lies in a deep, sheltered bay surrounded by pine-covered hills where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. The town has a large marina, a long promenade and an old town around the castle. Neighbouring İçmeler is quieter, with a sandy beach; Armutalan and the surrounding residential areas are popular for living all year. Dalaman Airport is roughly an hour and a half’s drive away.
