Girne (Kyrenia) is the best-known town in North Cyprus, with a historic harbour, a castle and the Beşparmak (Kyrenia) mountains rising behind the coast. West of the town lie Alsancak, Lapta and Karaağaç with sea views and many new complexes; to the east, Bahçeli and Esentepe offer quieter bays, golf and villas. Ercan Airport is roughly 40 minutes away.
Before you buy
Every foreign buyer needs a purchase permit from the Council of Ministers before the title deed can be transferred; this usually takes several months. Foreigners are limited in how many properties they can own, while Turkish citizens have higher limits. Budget well above the price for VAT on new builds, stamp duty, transfer fee and legal costs – figures from 2026 sources point to 15–20% in total. Most importantly, have an independent lawyer check the type and history of the title deed before paying a deposit.
